Florian Sanna's practice is that of a monk-soldier of material and resourcefulness. Guided by a strict ethic of 100% homemade, he designs his universes from recycled cardboard, crafts his characters' outfits, hunts for, re-purposes, and tinkers with everyday objects to integrate them into his Lore and bring to life the environments in which his characters evolve.

He also produces all the graphic elements present in his images (propaganda newspapers, charters, regulatory decrees) to give his fiction the weight of historical reality.

His universe evolves through narrative and artistic cycles, materializing the hardening of control structures:

  • Mauvaizélève: The foundations of the narrative. The introduction of the figure of indiscipline against the framework, the assertion of a hybrid aesthetic between urban subversion and studio rigor.
  • Les Zotres: The shift towards the collective and otherness. The exploration of marginal figures, outcasts, and invisible communities surviving in the blind spots of the system.
  • Entre 4 Murs: The brutalist and architectural turning point. In an ideal world, the artist would build his cities to scale 1:1, but the narrowness of the studio imposes its own law: the construction of 1:100 scale models.

Here, the digital tool acts as a precision scalpel. Through image superimposition and focus stacking, Florian Sanna merges reality and miniature, inserting his human-sized characters into the heart of his cardboard architectures. Photography seals these meticulous preparations; it becomes a cold capture that bestows upon the final image the status of an exhibit or a forbidden archive.

GENERATIVE AI MANIFESTO: In the era of the algorithmically calculated pixel, the studio imposes a physical resistance. No universe is generated by a prompt: every square millimeter of the work is born from an original photograph, a volume, a cut-out, or a collage. The illusion is not virtual; it is built, palpable.
